Scissor Lift Ticket Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need a ticket for a scissor lift?

Yes, you need a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) to operate a scissor lift. To obtain a HRWL for scissor lift, you must complete a nationally recognized training course, pass a practical assessment and pass a medical examination. The training course will cover topics such as safety procedures, operation and maintenance of the equipment, and emergency procedures. Once you have completed the course and passed the assessment, you will be issued with a HRWL, which is commonly referred to as a "ticket" for the scissor lift. This licence is valid for five years and it can be renewed by passing an assessment and a medical examination again.

Can anyone use a scissor lift?

The use of a scissor lift is restricted to individuals who hold a valid High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) for scissor lift operation. Only those who have completed a nationally recognized training course, passed a practical assessment, and passed a medical examination are legally permitted to operate a scissor lift.

Employers also have a legal responsibility to ensure that their employees are properly trained and qualified to operate a scissor lift. They should only allow those who hold a valid HRWL to operate the equipment and should also provide ongoing training and supervision to ensure that the equipment is used safely.

It is important to note that there are some exceptions to this rule, for example, in some cases, an employee who is under direct supervision of a licensed operator may be allowed to operate a scissor lift, but this depends on the regulations and laws of the specific state or territory.

In general, it is important to follow the laws and regulations in place to ensure the safety of the workers and others in the area.

What qualification do I need to operate a scissor lift?

The qualification required to operate a scissor lift is a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) for scissor lift operation. This licence is issued by the relevant state or territory's regulatory body after the individual has completed a nationally recognized training course, passed a practical assessment, and passed a medical examination.

Employers must also ensure that scissor lifts are properly maintained and inspected, and that any defects are repaired before the equipment is used.
