The course will provide you with a Statement of Attainment encompassing units:

HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTAID011 Provide first aid
RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
RIIRIS201E Conduct local risk control
RIISAM202E Isolate and access plant
RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights

A moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill is required.

Participants must be over seventeen (17) years of age.

Participants must wear the following PPE to commence the training:

  • Long-sleeved shirt (Preferably high vis)
  • Long pants
  • Steel capped boots required

Ancillaries: Safety glasses, gloves and hard hat will be provided alternatively you may wish to bring your own.

Lunch: Please feel free to bring your own as we have lunchroom facilities available i.e. microwave, fridge.

Parking: Available on-site or alternatively a short walk from Glendalough Train Station.

What is Chasing Gold – Your Pathway to Mining?

Chasing Gold – Your Pathway to Mining is a bespoke program for schools that provides students in Year 12 with essential training to set them up for an exciting career in mining. The course includes several industry-required tickets and is delivered in three, week-long training blocks. It is specifically aimed at non-ATAR Year 12 student leavers.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is ideal for non-ATAR Year 12 students who are ready to enter the workforce upon completion and are interested in pursuing a career in mining.

Why is the course not available to Year 11 students?

Mining sites require workers to be at least 18 years of age. Year 11 students can apply for the course in their following school year.

How many places are available for each school?

There are 5 places available per school.

Are there any prerequisites for the course?

There are no specific prerequisites, but students must be in Year 12 and ready to enter the workforce upon completing the program.

Do students need prior experience in mining?

No, this course is designed to provide all the necessary training to start a career in the mining industry.

What does the course cover?

The program covers a range of essential skills and knowledge required for entry-level roles in the mining industry. The 3-week program includes:

All essential equipment is provided. Students must bring:

  • Laptop (if you have one)

Safety glasses, gloves, and a hard hat will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own.

How long does the course take to complete?
